We’ve all been there, fitting new rear brake shoes to a Lambretta, only to find that either the rear hub won’t slip over them, or that they have an uneven braking surface… thus giving crap results. So, what we have here is a new item from Mr Martin ‘Sticky’ Round… the man who brought us The Complete Spanner’s Manual for Lambretta scooters, as well as the renowned SLUK clips. Now, unlike the manual and the clips, I don’t think EVERY Lambretta owner will necessarily need these; some rear brake setups do actually work very well. However, for those struggling to fit their rear brake and hub combo, or for those with poor braking performance, I think this is the ideal solution… eccentric pins for the shoes to sit on, complete with ‘W’ spring kit, various shims, and locking tab washers.
Alongside this, Sticky also does a separate Brake Alignment kit that can be used over and over, each time you work on a scooter that needs the rear brake fettling. So your first purchase may include both items; follow-up purchases may just be the eccentric pin kit, each time one is required, as the alignment kit can be reused like any other tool.
Sticky says, “We found, during testing, that the eccentric pins improved braking of every Lambretta we tried, providing a more progressive brake that worked well straight away with brand new shoes. This improvement comes because you can maximise the contact area of new shoes, rather than needing them to bed-in.”
