Do scooter wheels really need balancing?

Every month, you ask our resident tyre expert, Rhodz, sales manager at Cambrian Tyres and dedicated PX rider, for his recommendations. This month, he talks about balancing wheels.

Q: Hi Rhodz,

Do balance beads or stick-on wheel weights actually make a noticeable difference on 10-inch scooter wheels, or is balancing overkill at our speeds?

A: Hi Tom,

It is good practice to balance wheels.

If the wheels are out of balance, you will experience premature wear and vibration. It will also affect your MPG. A lot of people buying new rims don’t worry too much about it, as these mass-produced items will be checked on the production line, but each time you hit a pothole or mount a kerb, you knock the wheels, no matter how delicate the tap.

If you are restoring a classic, it’s also worth it. Why would you spend thousands on your pride and joy and skimp on the basics?

Kind regards,
Rhodz Roberts – Sales Manager
