York Scooterists Sought to Make 15-Year-Old Mod’s Prom Unforgettable

by

A York parent is appealing to the scooter and mod community to help make her autistic son’s prom arrival on July 6 at Knavesmire, York, truly special. The 15-year-old has a deep love of 60s mod culture and hopes a small group of scooterists could accompany him for a respectful roll-in on the evening.

A parent in York has reached out to the scooter and mod community with a heartfelt request.

Her son, aged 15, is autistic and has a deep love for 1960s mod culture — the music, the style, the scooters, and what she describes as “the pride in doing things properly.” It’s not a passing interest, she explains, but something that gives him confidence and a strong sense of identity.

On 6th July, he has his prom in Knavesmire, York

Large social events can be daunting, and what would make the night truly special for him would be arriving in a way that reflects who he is. The family’s hope is for a small group of scooterists to accompany him. The plan would be a quiet, respectful roll-in, a moment for photos, and then away — nothing disruptive, just something meaningful.

The proposed plan is to head out from Acomb, York at 5:45pm, ride around locally until doors open at Knavesmire around 6:15–6:30pm, and then ride down with him to his entrance.

The parent stressed that everything would be planned carefully and done safely.

She said she wanted to reach out to people who understand that the mod scene is about more than just turning up on a scooter — it’s about shared values, belonging, and pride in doing things properly. Having a few like-minded people alongside him would turn the evening into a memory he could feel genuinely proud of.

If you are local to York and feel this is something you could help with keep watching as we’ll release more details nearer the time.
