Owners of modern Vespa GTS models now have a new high-end wheel option, as SIP Scootershop has announced the release of its forged aluminium MK II 2.0 rims in 13-inch sizes, developed specifically for the Vespa GTS range.
Previously available for other modern Vespa models, the SIP PERFORMANCE forged rim is now offered in a size that suits the GTS platform, bringing the benefits of forged-wheel technology to one of Vespa’s most popular large-frame scooters.
Forged performance, reduced weight
The MK II 2.0 rim is SIP PERFORMANCE’s first forged wheel design. Developed in collaboration with a professional wheel manufacturer, the rim weighs approximately 3,000 grams, making it the lightest 13-inch rim currently offered by SIP for modern Vespa models.

Despite its low weight, the rim meets national and international strength and durability standards and is supplied with a general operating permit (ABE), allowing legal road use where applicable.

Why forged rims matter
Unlike conventional cast rims, forged wheels are produced using a process that compresses the aluminium, creating a denser and stronger structure. This allows material to be used more efficiently, resulting in a lighter rim without compromising strength.
For riders, this reduction in unsprung mass delivers tangible benefits: sharper chassis response, improved steering precision, and more agile handling — particularly noticeable on scooters used in demanding riding conditions.
According to SIP, Vespa GTS models equipped with the MK II forged rim feel noticeably more responsive and precise, thanks to the reduced weight acting directly on suspension and steering performance.
Premium design at a realistic price
Forged rims are widely regarded as a premium product within the motorcycle world and are often priced well beyond the reach of most scooter owners. SIP’s stated goal with the MK II project was to offer a forged rim at a more accessible price point.
SIP notes that many alternative forged rims for Vespa GTS models typically cost around twice as much, and in some cases are supplied without official approval. By contrast, the SIP MK II rim combines forged construction, certification, and competitive pricing in a single package.
Distinctive concave styling
Visually, the MK II 2.0 rim sets itself apart with a clean, modern look. The slim double-spoke layout avoids unnecessary material, while the concave centre design — deeper than the outer edge — gives the wheel a distinctive appearance not previously seen on SIP or Piaggio designs. The effect resembles a positive offset, adding to the rim’s sporty aesthetic.
