1978 LAMBRETTA GP200
Brand new restoration in FEB 2018 (By Madaan Motors in India) UK REGISTERED 01/04/2018
See this 7 min video (May 5th 2018) of the scooter being started from cold and ridden: https://youtu.be/OwPSTS1pVzg
I privately imported this scooter in April 2018 (I have bought 7 scooters from Madaan Motors, both projects and restorations) This scooter is for sale because I have just bought a 1966 VBB Vespa and want to restore this one (as personally I prefer Vespa to Lambretta)
The scooter is UK registered with all duties of import having been paid (See the last picture, showing V5, MOT, Insurance, NOVA etc,) it has an age related number plate (clearly shown in the pictures) and has a V5 with its make as LAMBRETTA GP 200, and in my name, the first owner in the UK. It has MOT until APRIL 2019 with no advisories Everything works as it should and the restoration was carried out with numerous new parts, including new GP200 case and internals, wiring, cables etc etc. The paint work is good and thick, some very minor chips where it has been stored in my garage. It starts second kick from cold then first kick when warm. brakes will need bedding in. Ride wise, its good with nice grip (on Indian Tyres) and feedback, not fast as the engine is standard but it gives the public a chance to look at this very nice scooter. Brakes and gears (set up by Get Smart Scooters in Bristol) will require running in, and the engine too.
Has a spare wheel mounted to a leg shield mounted holder with Lambretta scripted wheel cover and new floormat to protect the floor, plus stylish seat (not the standard slope back type fitted to Indian restorations).
The scooter will come with a lot of spare chrome items and parts, to include (not shown)
Escort chromed rear shock
Chrome cylinder cover
Chrome Flywheel cover
CEV Headlight class
Chrome floorboard side trim
Chrome sundance grips
New rear light holder (existing one has a chip, not got around to changing it)
and some other items that I may find in the garage
A better spark plug, cable, cap , plus a good quality engine oil are the only things i have changed. The bike only has 16 miles on the rebuild so will still need running in I assume, may go up slightly if this warm weather continues.
Ignition switch has a slight earthing issue, needs checking behind the horn cover as sometimes turning the key doesn’t stop the engine, most times it does but its mentioned in honesty, all lights work etc etc.
The build is good, not near the several thousand pounds of a UK restoration (but the buy it now price of this scooter is less than a quality restoration and YOU have to supply a scooter too, here you get on the road affordably) The headset needs some fettling to make it seat perfectly, the chrome rim appears too small etc, other than that ride and enjoy.
I am selling to start the restorartion of my VBB. If you are reading this advert then you probably already know what an investment a classic scooter is, with prices going up every year easily, and Indian Lambrettas being considered as good as Italian now, due to the rariety of Lambrettas coming in from abroad (see this months Scootering on the fact) Plus SIL scooters were made with strengthened floor bracing and thicker steel than the Italian varients. Please see the video of it being started and running (copy and paste)
The scooter is in Bristol and I encourage you to inspect before bidding or offering for your own piece of mind. But please do not be obtuse in thinking this is a brand new vehicle, it is forty years old and will need maintaining.
Please do your homework and check prices of similar new restorations (are they UK registered or is it left to the buyer to undertake) if you think you will get this for a few hundred pounds then dream on.
Vintage Lambrettas are going up in value, you are better off investing in a Lambretta than a savings account, you will get a better return. AND unlike similar Ebay auctions, where the scooter needs registering (with dealers charging for this very simple act, and yes it is easy if you have all the correct documentation, which this scooter has) This scooter is UK registered with a long MOT, ready to ride legal on the road (subject to your insurance and road tax ) See the last picture (includes close up of V5 stating make as Lambretta)
