The Tucano Urbano Ermes jacket is a 3⁄4 length touring jacket that features the revolutionary British designed, soft D30 armour at the shoulder and elbow.
There’s also a back pocket to accommodate a back protector into which a D30 item fits very nicely indeed. Anyway, it also boasts being fully waterproof, windproof and breathable with a ventilation system and loads of technical things such as an adjustable/removable lumbar support pad attached by Velcro to the inside, a strap for carrying your helmet when walking about and a seemingly endless supply of pockets for everything and anything.
You also get Tucano’s Reflactive system which allows you to turn the collar and cuffs up or down depending on whether you want reflective strips for road riding, or a subtle looking coat for walking into work.
I’ve had this coat since around April, covering many thousands of miles in it both around the UK (including a wet Kelso) as well as venturing into Mainland Europe. The removeable thermal liner does for me what it’s meant to, that’s keeping me warm, while the outer has kept me dry. As with other Tucano Urbano products, I’ve not had problems on that front.
The coat is very smart too, in the usual Italian stylish way. Like another Tucano coat however, I did make the mistake of hanging it up by its loop, which duly broke under the coat’s own weight, which is a bit of a bugger as this is also one of the fixing points of the lining too.
However, Tucano’s warranty covers this, and indeed they informed that they’ve since upgraded such loops to make them stronger. Unfortunately, an inner pocket zip also came loose and a cuff tab on the lining broke, the first such incidents of failure I can recall on a Tucano coat in many years.
The warranty however does cover this for immediate replacement, which you can’t really argue with. As such, the Ermes (which also comes in a ladies cut version named the Iris) is another from the Tucano range that combines the smart style of urban clothing with everything a rider needs; protection, warmth, plenty of pockets and a waterproof outer.
Available in sizes Medium to 3XL, in black or beige (the Iris in ladies sizes XS to XL), visit www.tucanourbano.com for further details.
