Feature Scooter: Vettriano Lambretta
By: Web Editor
It’s funny how life changing a seemingly minor event can turn out to be. A gift, a couple of words of advice and a person’s direction can be turned upside down forever.
For Jack Vettriano this turned out to be a 21st birthday present from a girlfriend; a set of watercolour paints that set him on a journey that has resulted in him going from an out of work mining engineer to becoming one of the UK’s most successful living artists.
Scooter Spec
Name of scooter: Vettriano Lambretta, because he’s simply a great artist.
Model: Lambretta Serveta Li.
Inspiration for project: After seeing the Trojan Lambretta and the Dali Vespa.
Engine: 175cc with a pipe.
Specialised parts: Self engraved stainless rear floor plates.
Paintwork and murals: By myself. Trained as a Design Artist but between jobs at the moment so I put the canvases down and bought myself an airbrush and did this. The scoot features the more seedier works of Jack Vettriano portraying the night working ladies of Edinburgh’s back streets in the 40s.
Overall cost: After the scoot around £300 for conversions and say 100 quid for the paint.
Hardest part of the project: Prep for paintjob. Holes, dents, glass fibre, catty etc. Just rub and keep rubbing. Rub for Scotland!
Advice for anyone starting a project: Buy yourself some time as well as Sticky’s manual.
Thanks: Everybody at the Coyotes SC for their encouragement and ma partner Wendy for putting up with my absenteeism while putting my project together, thanks doll!
