Over 11,000 people poured through the gates at the Newark Showground on January 5-6 for the event, with attendance up a staggering 15% on the inaugural show last year.

Hundreds of beautifully prepared classic motorcycles and scooters dating from the 1920s right up to the 2000s were on show, including a controversial 2008 Confederate Wraith, and superbike track legend Chris Walker was the guest of honour.

Dozens of awards were handed out but Best in Show and its accompanying £100 prize went to Ray Bourne's Kawasaki H2A. It was built in late 1972 before being exported to America and then brought to the UK where steelworker Ray, from Walsall in the West Midlands, bought it in 2009. A whirlwind restoration followed and it was finished in early 2012. "I spent every spare minute on it," said Ray.

Other award winners included the Italian Motorcycle Owners' Club for Best Club Stand, along with a £750 prize, and Stuart McNeil whose 1961 Vespa GS160 took both the Best Scooter in Show and Best Original Looking awards.

There were more than 200 traders showcasing their wares too and Lincoln Harley-Davidson, showing a small selection of its model range, said it had received more than 80 potential sales leads over the weekend.

Classic Bike Shows organiser Nick Mowbray said: "It was an incredible show. The weather could not have been kinder and the atmosphere was lovely -- very warm and friendly all weekend. Everyone put in a huge amount of effort and it paid off spectacularly.

"The clubs had really gone all out to make their stands spot-on and the private entries were immaculate. The Confederate Wraith certainly divided opinion with its unusual curves but there's no denying that it was something a little different. "We had a new addition for this year, the Classic Scooter World hall, and this proved to be a great success. We had everything from outstanding custom machines to stretched out sprint scooters and historic classics.

"We have already been taking calls about our next show at Newark, the Carole Nash Newark Bike Bonanza, which is on June 22-23 this year. There have even been booking for the next January show in 2014."

An OK video - but that music is annoying and masked the sound of bikes!
