New & Improved
By: Andy
Hello and welcome to the 303rd issue of Scootering magazine. And if you’re reading this at the Isle of Wight Scooter Rally, I hope you’re having a good weekend!
As you may well have seen already, Scootering has changed a bit since last month’s issue (and indeed those prior to that, in case you’ve not picked up a copy in a while), this being the first of our new and improved editions.
Aside from the sheet of FREE stickers you should have found attached to the front cover, the magazine itself now boasts 164 pages with a perfect bound cover. It’s also had a redesign, something that Scootering hasn’t had for many years now. After all, we are now in the 21st century!
We’ve not just given the magazine a makeover however, but have used this opportunity to implement a number of changes that both you, the readers, have suggested and that we ourselves have wanted to do for a while now, which enhance the regular features you know and love.
At the beginning of this year we added Your Shout to some of the bigger rally and event reviews, offering you a different view of things. Now we’ve freshened up the look of the event pages too, and hopefully you’ll agree it makes those features even better still.
Elsewhere we’ve added a few snippets here and there to embellish the magazine, from sharing items of interest we find at events with you, to a look at some essential scootering music. The Show Us Your Scoots pages have been expanded to include two new sections – Wish You Were Here and From Your Shed. We all love riding our scooters and the first gives you a chance to show us some of the more interesting places you’ve visited on yours, while the latter is a chance for all you DIY-ers to show of your handiwork with some ‘before’ and ‘after’ shots of your home builds and self restoration projects.
You may also have noticed the improved Classic Scootering and Practical Scootering sections, the result of combining previous parts of the magazine together. The names speak for themselves really, with nostalgia and restos featuring in the Classic section (check out Dave’s new series on old custom scooters that begins this month!), while the Practical section offers advice, tips and product tests for everyone from the inquisitive to the grease monkeys. We’ve even created a new letters page, Tech torque, just for this section. If there’s something you need to know, or have something to share with other readers, then please drop us a line.
Add to this our new Buyer’s Guide in the Scooter Trader section, our List of things you maybe didn’t know, and we hope you like both Scootering’s new look and extra content.
No doubt things will be tweaked slightly over the coming months as everything falls into its new place, but we think it’s been worth all the hard work Charlotte and her colleagues in design have put into this, as well as that of Scootering’s regular contributors
We hope you enjoy it!
Andy
