Bedrock

We’ve mentioned before on these pages about how the scooter scene recycles, taking old vehicles and reusing them again. Surely that’s got to be environmentally preferable to the process of manufacturing a brand new scooter? Anyway, what we have here is an old scooter that was recycled as a custom scooter, and then that itself has been recycled again. To me that sounds pretty green... for a brown Lambretta.

Bedrock

SCOOTER DETAILS

Name of scooter: Bedrock
Model: Lambretta SX.
Inspiration: Project was already there and still ongoing. Ron Morgan was original builder.
Frame modifications: One-off tank, back electrics box, extended forks (to be changed for box tubed and twisted chrome), stitched headset and mudguard, leather engraved tank cover.
Specialised parts: Frame wrapped in leather – not vinyl!
Engine: 175cc Kegra conversion, Yamaha piston, comp clutch, Micron pipe.
Top and cruising speed: 70mph tops and I’m cruising all the time – my arse is a foot off the floor, say no more…
Is the scooter reliable: It was a bag of shit until I passed it on to Jerome at Reedspeed, now very reliable and runs sweet.
Overall cost: So far £2000-plus, reckon another £1000 to finish to spec I want.
Anything to add to the scoot: New forks, more leather, bones.
Anything you would like to be different: Lights. I would love to see the road at night and not the trees!
Favourite dealer: Readspeed.
Thanks: My good wife Shenda, and all Oxfordshire scooterists.

well well well, is my old choper "rubble without a cause". it was featured before, with photos taken in castle hall grounds, hertford, herts. the forks have changed, was originally about 5ft liong, also made by me,but as said, made the light beam sky high! i was seeking buying this back thru several forums ,as i sold it after a few shows and rallies,to a local guy,and he just stored it. then i was contacted by the forum members, and i got a link eventually to the now current owner via an old ebay sale add!,needless to say we swapped details etc and stories about the scoot, and apparently ive got 1st dibbs if he ever sells.id buy it back tomorrow. its a real sentimental piece,as i built it for my passed away parents, and there was a plaque on the electric box reflecting this.
paint was mick o donahue of bedlams, and there also is an airbrushed barney rubble under the leather tank cover. as stated, its all covered in hand stitched leather, weatherproofed, and in places, hand tooled! this was done by a chap in hoddesdon in his house,he works on telly projects and films. frame and tank was built by me. last rally was mersea island, late 80"s. several tropies,of which i still have shelved. im semi back on the scene again, going to our local club do"s,and also recently bought a lammy cutdown, but sold on,as cash got tight, but there will be another . im getting talked into going on a few rallies again.my other scooter featured was "a nightmare on elm st" lambretta, before this. ill def get a copy, and still have the orig copy too! rgds ron morgan
