Rally Reviews
Dia Del Scooter Clasico 3 (Day of the Classic Scooter)
25 January 2012
More than 200 scooters unite in the city; a European scooter rally? No. There’s 28 degrees humidity in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina for the third annual edition of this South American scooterist event that is growing year by year...
New scooters galore in Milan
30 November 2011.
The Milan motorcycle show, aka EICMA, is the big one as far as many are concerned. Yes there’s Paris, Cologne and the good ol’ NEC in Birmingham, but if you want to find all the latest scooter news as soon as it happens, if not sooner, then there’s no better place to go than Italy. EICMA has a net exhibition area of 58,200 sq m to accommodate 1462 brands from 43 different countries within seven pavilions... and it’s all about the two-wheel vehicle sector.
Bridlington trade & custom show 2011
30 November 2011.
With nearly 300 miles ahead of us we decided to split our journey up to Brid, so after loading up the scoot we made a Thursday evening exodus, arriving in a ‘moist’ Peterborough just before 9pm.
Strictly Scooters 2011
27 October 2011.
All aboard for Jersey!...What started as a drunken rally conversation about different things progressed to a weekend away for a reconnaissance with Jersey SC, followed by nine months of planning, meetings, phone calls and a ton of red tape. But finally the moment arrived to load the bikes and head for the ferry for the start of Strictly Scooters 2011
Euro Ye-Ye 2011
22 September 2011.
The 17th edition Euroyeye began on the Thursday with Bongolain playing live in the Major Square to an audience of over 3000 people. Real Bongo Boogaloo action and after that, I started first kick my Jet 200 and headed directly to the Oasis Disco where July (the legendary British psychedelic band that had played Spain in 1966 and went back to England in 1967 to avoid the military service of their children). doing their gig were awesome. They made a great album in 1968 and they still rock!
Isle of Wight Scooter Rally 2011
22 September 2011.
Twenty-five years ago I was also at the Isle of Wight scooter rally. The 1986 edition ended in a riot with a burning beer tent, exploding gas bottles, ransacked dealer stalls and the emergency services declaring the site a no-go area for several hours after being pelted with missiles. Apart from consumption of some liberated alcohol – for which I’d probably get six months inside, going on the sentencing following the recent riots – I took no part in it. I was too busy trying to get my end away, in vain I might add. The events on the IoW changed everything on the scooter scene. Scooterists were now persona non grata. The riots brought about the era of the NRC/ NSRA identity cards and members-only rally entertainment. That might have been the medicine we needed at the time, but it never tasted good.
Roadrunners LC Rally - Casola Valsenio, Italy
25 August 2011.
This was the 11th edition of this rally, organised by the Roadrunners – an active lot, constantly organising jolly ups and events throughout the year. Over the years, the rally has moved a couple of times and its present location is 20km south of Imola. As part of SIR’s (United Italian Scooterists) scooter event calendar, it has always been guaranteed a decent turnout, although it’s also fair to say that numbers have dropped considerably over the last few years. Whether that is a sign of the times, or a reflection of the current economic climate, I have no idea. Other well established Italian events, such as the Rimini Mod rally and the Isle of Elba, have also suffered from the same situation.
Exmouth BSRA Scooter Rally
25 August 2011.
Setting off at the ungodly hour of 9.30am to meet Andy SWS, it was only meant to be an hour jaunt to Exmouth from Somerset. Stopping to fill up five miles away, Andy had already split the Ram air filter on his chop but that was repaired with some electrical tape. We then waited for Scott and Rachel. I wasn’t holding out much hope as Scott had persuaded his local MoT station to open at 7.30 to test Rachel’s T5 ready for the trip. I mean, what could possibly go wrong...
EuroLambretta 2011, Killarney, Ireland
1 August 2011.
After last year’s biblical downpours in Spain, everyone (including the Lambretta Club of Ireland) was ready for a drop of rain at this year’s event. After all, how else do you think the Irish can boast such a green and pleasant land?
Dutch Lions/YSA Allied Invasion 2011
1 August 2011.
Although only a relatively small club, the Dutch Lions SC of Rotterdam once a year join forces with the substantial Yorkshire Scooter Alliance to put on the very successful Rotterdam Run.
