Haven’t I seen you somewhere before?
26 January 2012
If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery then Piaggio must be over the moon with all these Vespa-looking scooters we spotted at the Milan Motorcycle show at the end of 2011. Although maybe not? Research shows quite a number of new retro looking scooters sold on that infamous internet auction site as ‘like Vespa’.
Bedrock
26 January 2012.
We’ve mentioned before on these pages about how the scooter scene recycles, taking old vehicles and reusing them again. Surely that’s got to be environmentally preferable to the process of manufacturing a brand new scooter? Anyway, what we have here is an old scooter that was recycled as a custom scooter, and then that itself has been recycled again. To me that sounds pretty green... for a brown Lambretta.
Pornoyacht Reloaded

The 1980s are known for many things, but it is one of those few decades where rose-tinted spectacles are clouded by negative comments and memories. There were of course a lot of bad things from that era and, depending on where you were at the time, ‘excess’ was one of them. A great example of 1980s excess is jumping out at you from these very pages and, while maybe not the Wall Street version excess such as rich bankers (yes, that is rhyming slang!), there’s certainly a lot here for you all to comment on.
El Tigre - Seis
26 January 2012.
We thought it might be useful to share some of our scooter building experiences with you, some tips, hints and ideas that many of you may find constructive when in your own back yards, garages or sheds. We’d also welcome your feedback and tips too, both for ourselves and other readers, so please drop us a line and share it with everyone in the world of Scootering. Moving on from last month, I’ve got a pile of shiny white Spanish Lambretta bodywork and an engine casing that looks like it’s just been recovered by Tony Robinson and his ‘geophys’ boys on Time Team.
Peroxide Dreams
26 January 2012.
I’m sure many of you have project scooters in garages or sheds somewhere (possibly even under the stairs?), on hold for one reason or another, still awaiting completion. But how many of you, I wonder, have scooters that have taken over 20 years to complete... like Andy Tatum’s here did?
Recommended Listening - Introducing Andy Lewis
26 January 2012.
Andy Lewis was conceived on a Vespa, or so he thinks. At the time his parents owned a Vespa GS, their second scooter after his dad had driven their old Lambretta into a ditch. The scooter was their transport for holidays and it was on one such trip to the West Country that it happened...
1950 Lambretta Model C
25 January 2012.
Most people are by now aware of the famous racing Lambrettas in Australia in the early 1950s. Unfortunately these scooters were all but the first and the last of their kind to be raced Down Under for a good many years. It was not until the late 1970s that ‘scooter racing’ took off in any way, shape or form down under.
Sting In The Tail
30 November 2011.
It’s said you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. In the case of street racer Sting In The Tail perhaps that adage ought to read, you can’t judge the owner by their scooter?
20th Century Toy

The music scene has a habit of giving the world some of the most iconic souls. Sadly this genius also has the habit of early release, whether it be self destruction of the likes of Keith Moon and Jimi Hendrix, or tragic accidents in the case of Mark Feld. Mark Feld? I hear you ask, perhaps you know him better as his 1970s glam rocker alter ego Marc Bolan.
Traction control comes to scooters
30 November 2011.
Big wheeled scooters are something we in the UK we don’t really get. I don’t mean readers of Scootering in particular, but the nation as a whole. The reality is, however, they are a practical piece of kit. Italy’s best selling scooter and motorcycle in 2010 was the Piaggio Beverly 300 – over 16,000 were sold – which makes it the obvious model to receive the very latest in scooter technology. So ladies and gents, what you see here is a glimpse of scootering in the future.
