1950 Lambretta Model C
By: Web Editor
Most people are by now aware of the famous racing Lambrettas in Australia in the early 1950s. Unfortunately these scooters were all but the first and the last of their kind to be raced Down Under for a good many years. It was not until the late 1970s that ‘scooter racing’ took off in any way, shape or form down under.
SCOOTER DETAILS
Name of scooter: Longoni Replica.
Model: Lambretta Model C.
Inspiration for project: Scooter racing pioneers of the late 1940s and 50s.
Time to build: Eight years on and off, still not finished.
Specialised parts: The whole thing, practically nothing is standard.
Engine: Fully worked 125cc with Varitronic ignition.
Carburettor: Dellorto SS 27C.
Exhaust: One-off hand built as per the original Innocenti race department development.
Other unique details: 18 litre long-range tank to name one obvious one.
Paintwork: Innocenti racing red.
Engraving: My name and date in a hidden place.
Chrome: Very little.
Advice for anyone starting a project: Do plenty of research and don’t just rely on the internet. Think it through and plan an achievable course of action before you start. Then save up three times the amount of money you think you’ll spend and double it
Anything to add to the scooter: An original Dellorto air filter and the correct type of fuel filter, if I can ever find one. Also a mural of Longoni if I can find out his birth and death dates and some other special art work, I’ve got planned.
Favourite dealer: The internet, I’m in Australia!
Thanks: I’d just like to thank several people for their invaluable help throughout this project; Tino Sacchi, Larry Still, Shannon and Gill Skidmore, Craig O’Dwyer, Vittoria Tessera, Paolo Catani, Dean Orton, Howard Chambers, Sergio Sciarpetti, Colin Bathe, Peter Shannon and Dean Cording.
