Venhill VWK011 Motorcycle Brake Bleeding and Vacuum Pump Kit (reviewed December 2007)

Scootering magazine - Venhill VWK011 Motorcycle Brake Bleeding and Vacuum Pump KitWe brought you news of this funky little gizmo a few months ago and now we’ve had time to try it out we can give it an even bigger thumbs up.
Brake bleeding is not an everyday occurrence at home, but when it does need doing it can be a tricky and time-consuming process. I have looked at making this easier in the past, but specialist tools have until now always involved a compressor, which I don’t have. Venhill’s VWK011 uses hand-pumped vacuum to draw the fluid through, and so it makes it both cheap and easy to use.
The supplied instructions are basic, but easy to follow, and to be honest, there’s little to it. You have the vacuum pump plumbed into one side of the container while the other side is connected to the bleed nipple. You then simply have to top up the master cylinder with brake fluid, crack the nipple and use the hand pump to draw the fluid through, keeping the master cylinder topped up to prevent sucking air into the system.
I’ve recently fitted a disc brake to an old Vespa chopper I’m rebuilding and used this to set up said braking system, far easier than trying to pump the brake lever by hand – especially with extended forks! As a result the VWK011 from Venhill gets the vote for turning this into a one man operation that could be measured in clean and easy minutes.
