Scar Tissue

As Scooters go, this one has been a long time coming – but I feel patience on behalf of everyone concerned has been rewarded many times over.
Three or four years back I viewed what I felt was a pretty nice custom scooter with a theme I appreciated, having been ‘into’ the ‘Chillis’ since hearing their unusual blend of funked-up ‘creativity and spirituality’ through the skate scene of the late 80s. After contacting Jason the owner I was told that a few modifications were to be added over the winter, which then turned in to what was virtually a complete reworking of the entire scooter!
The work hasn’t finished yet either, although Jason now feels it’s somewhere like complete – he just needs to decide when to stop adding all his new ideas.

NS Goldflash

Name of scooter: NS Goldflash because it was built by North Staffs Scooters of Stoke.
Model: Vespa SS180.
Inspiration: I always liked the Grimstead type scooters of the 60s and the racing pedigree of the SS180s. I was also very impressed with the Danny’s Gransport Tornado.
Engine: Standard SS180, the way it was meant to be.
Paintwork: A guy called Andy in Stoke.
Chrome: Nyphos in Crewe.
Overall cost: £4500 including the scooter.
Anything to add: A period backrest.
Favourite dealer: Allstyles they are very reliable helpful and cooperative.
Thanks: Iain Wilkins for his advice and guidance, Don and Mitch for their time, patience and expertise; Andy (Chick) for the wonderful paint, Danny at Gransport for inspiration; Collo, Kate and the Outer Circle Scooter Club; John Viggars, mMaz and Lee Bear for their continued interest, and Captain Kev and his toolkit
